Residential Excavation Services for Homeowners in Watertown and Jefferson County
Site Work for the Projects Homeowners Actually Run Into
G&G Excavation works with homeowners across Jefferson County and Northern New York on the excavation and site work that comes with owning property in this area. Failing septic systems, wet yards that won’t dry out, gravel driveways that have had enough, overgrown land you want cleared, new home builds, additions, ponds, and retaining walls. We handle all of it with owned equipment and operators who know the local ground conditions.
Most of our residential customers have never hired an excavation contractor before. That is fine. We explain what we are looking at, what the options are, and what the work will actually cost before anything starts. No pressure, no vague estimates.
Residential Services We Provide
Septic System Installation and Replacement
Most rural and suburban properties in Jefferson County run on septic systems, and most calls we get about septic involve either a new installation on a property that has never had one, or a replacement of a system that is failing. Signs of a failing system include slow drains throughout the house, wet patches over the drain field, and sewage odors near the house or yard. We handle the excavation, the county health department permit process, and the installation. New systems and replacements built to New York State and county code.
Water Drainage Solutions
If your yard holds water after every rain, water is getting into your basement during snowmelt, or a section of your property stays wet all season, the problem usually has a fixable cause. Northern New York’s clay soils and heavy snowpack make drainage problems more common here than in most of the state. We install French drains, cut swales, regrade slopes, and put in culverts where needed. We diagnose the source of the problem before we propose a solution.
Gravel Driveway Installation and Resurfacing
A gravel driveway that ruts out every spring, loses its stone to plowing, or turns to mud during runoff season was usually built without a proper base or without crown drainage. We install new driveways from the subgrade up and resurface existing ones that have lost their stone or shape. If the base has failed, we tell you before you spend money on surface stone that won’t hold.
Land Clearing
Whether you want a brushy side yard cleaned up, a build site cleared before construction, or an overgrown farm lane brought back to usable condition, we handle the clearing and haul the debris. We clear trees, brush, stumps, and overgrowth and leave you with workable ground.
Site Preparation for New Builds and Additions
Building a new home or adding on? Site prep is the first thing that happens: clearing the footprint, rough grading, foundation excavation, and subgrade compaction. We work with your builder to sequence the site prep into the overall construction schedule, and we know the local frost line requirements for foundation depth in Jefferson County.
Pond Excavation
Rural properties in Northern New York often have the topography and the clay soils for a farm or recreational pond. We dig new ponds and clean out existing ones that have silted in over the years. We assess the site first and tell you whether natural pond conditions exist before you commit to the excavation.
Retaining Walls and Shoreline Work
Sloped lots, eroding banks, and shoreline properties on Jefferson County’s inland lakes all occasionally need a wall or shoreline protection. We build retaining walls in block, stone, and timber, and we do riprap and sea wall work along the St. Lawrence and inland lakes. Shoreline work requires DEC permits; we flag this at the site visit.
What to Expect When You Call
Every job starts with a site visit. We come out, look at what you have, talk through the options, and give you a written estimate with a real number. Most residential jobs get scheduled within a few weeks of the estimate, faster in the off-season. If permits are required, we tell you what is needed and who pulls them before work starts.
We protect what stays: existing lawn, other structures, the septic field if we are working nearby. We keep the site clean between work days and walk the finished job with you before we leave.
