Trenching and Stone Pad Contractor Serving Watertown and Northern New York

Utility Trenching and Compacted Pads for Residential and Commercial Sites

G&G Excavation digs trenches for utility lines and builds compacted stone pads for equipment, structures, and access across Jefferson County and the surrounding region. If a project needs a trench dug to the right depth or a flat, load-bearing surface built up from the subgrade, we handle it as a standalone job or as part of a larger site prep scope.

Utility Trenching

Water and Sewer Lines

We trench for water service lines, sewer laterals, and septic connections running from the house or building to the street, well, or system. Trenches are dug to the depth and slope the work requires, with bedding material placed under the pipe before it goes in.

Electrical and Communication Lines

We dig to the required depth and width for the project. When needed, we add proper bedding material for the utility line.We backfill in lifts with proper compaction to help prevent trench settling later.

Drainage Trenching

Trenches for French drains, culvert pipe, and other drainage infrastructure are part of our water drainage work. See Water Drainage Solutions for the full breakdown of how we diagnose and fix drainage problems.

Trench Depth, Bedding, and Backfill

We dig each trench to the required depth and width, adding bedding material where the utility calls for it. Then we backfill in lifts with proper compaction. This helps prevent settled trenches and low spots in yards, driveways, or parking areas later.

Equipment and Stone Pads

What Pads Are For

Generators, propane tanks, AC condensers, dumpsters, mobile and modular homes, and outbuildings all need a stable, level surface to sit on. We excavate to the subgrade, place and compact a stone base, and finish to the elevation and size the equipment or structure requires.

Building a Pad That Holds

A pad that is not properly excavated and compacted will settle unevenly, which is a problem for anything bolted down or set level, from a generator to a modular home. We cut to firm ground, place stone in compacted lifts, and grade the surface so water sheds away from whatever sits on it rather than pooling underneath.

Commercial Trenching and Pad Work

Commercial sites often need a combination of both: utility trenching for water, sewer, and electrical service to a new building, plus equipment pads for generators, transformers, dumpsters, or HVAC units. We coordinate trenching and pad work with your other trades so utilities are in the ground and pads are compacted before the equipment shows up to be set.

Utility Locates Before Any Digging

We call Dig Safely New York 811 before every trench and every pad excavation, no exceptions. Hitting an unmarked utility line is expensive, dangerous, and entirely avoidable. Locates are free and required by law before ground disturbance, and we build the wait time into the schedule rather than skip the step.

Northern New York Ground Conditions

Clay soils throughout Jefferson and Lewis counties affect how a trench holds its shape and how a pad compacts. Clay walls can slough into an open trench faster than sandy soil, which affects how long a trench can stay open and how we sequence the work. For pads, a clay subgrade needs to be properly prepped before stone goes down, or the base will hold water and never compact the way it should. We account for this on every job rather than treating every site the same.
